Frequently asked questions
?
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Since COVID some appreciate a ZOOM conference call to start. I like to take a look at the property and assess the glass and window conditions. I offer a free estimate. Sometimes this can be done over the phone based on the square footage of the home. I send a price quote to the customer email and wait for approval. Of course this process can be as simple or complicated as the customer prefers.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
On-the-job training is what this job requires. You can’t learn a skill like this in a classroom. My blog describes things I have learned over the many years of cleaning. It is a work in progress.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was introduced to window cleaning by my now wife of 30 years. I was 17 years old when I started washing windows. Chandeliers, mirrors, and glass found in lighting were always cleaned when customers requested.
What types of customers have you worked with?
30 years is a long time. I speak Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. I’ve worked with all kinds of people. I get along with people well
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
The Chandelier we cleaned for Mrs. Harris in Muskegon was very satisfying. Like window cleaning you don’t realize how impressive glass and crystals can be until after it has been polished.
I will add to this a cleaning I did for Mr. Jurries in Holland, MI. We cleaned 23 sconces on his beautiful property. (See Pictures)
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
My advice would be to be careful with franchises. The hiring and training of new contractors and employees can be a problem. Maintaining a good workforce is a challenge since not many continue in this business for long. Having been in this business myself for 30 years and personally performing all of my client's work is a bit unusual.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Do you have any other maintenance scheduled before the windows get cleaned such as; landscaping, cement work near the glass, anything that produces a lot of dust in or outside of the home. Also, inform the lawn care professionals about the direction that the cutting and trimming is being done, nothing should be hitting the glass. Check to see if any sprinkling heads are blasting your glass with water as this can damage your glass.
