Reasons and Tips 1: Manufacturer's Window Warranties
I started to look around on the internet searching manufacturer's websites, PDFs with product instructions, and competitors' blogs. I found that the best information comes from the manufacturer. That is not very surprising, is it?
To illustrate this please note the following comments from the Pella Corporation:
"Pella recommends you inspect your windows and patio doors at least annually as part of a home checkup. Following the recommended maintenance can prolong the life of your Pella windows and doors and will help ensure maximum warranty coverage. As needed, clean, repaint or re-stain your windows and patio doors, and re-caulk around them to help maintain optimal performance. Also, be sure to regularly check for leaks and improper drainage above or around vents and sprinkler systems that may subject your windows and patio doors to prolonged water exposure. Adhering to this recommended care, Pella windows and patio doors can reward you with decades of beauty and performance."
At some point your window could become 'blown', that is to say, the window seal fails which allows moisture to enter between dual-pane glass. That foggy, misty, or cloudy look that you see. If it is still within the manufacturer's warranty time period, your regular maintenance will be key to getting a replacement without any hassle. Of course, your regular maintenance in itself will likely prevent this from happening in the first place, saving you a lot of trouble.
Regular window cleaning maintenance provides you with yet another benefit. If your window cleaner is properly skilled and trained he will alert you to these concerns while he cleans your glass. Pointing out to you possible caulking or window seal failures. He is in a good position to this while he is working closely with your windows.
